If I'm run longer then I've forgotten all about it so it would have been way back when I was a teenager. Only in my dreams! RE: TGC Fitness Thread - 2024 - Danster - 10-17-2024 I'd like to get myself close to half marathon distance by the end of the year then look to enter a proper half marathon event in 2025. We have a few really good ones around where I live. RE: TGC Fitness Thread - 2024 - Hwo - 11-06-2024 Do you guys use any sort of fitness trackers? I’ve always just used a dive watch for workouts and runs, but I beat my current one to crap and it finally stopped working. Been looking at various alternatives, preferably with GPS. The Apple Watch battery life is horrendous. I bought a Garmin Fenix 8 in 43mm and 47mm that get delivered soon to try both out. I’m used to much smaller watches — my daily wear is a nice 36mm or the aforementioned 40mm skin diver. These will be much larger than what I’m used to. We have a few really good ones around where I live. That’s awesome, good luck! I used to run 14 miles every Saturday, I’ve switched over and started running 10 miles every Sunday with a 40 lb weighted vest. It is hell, takes me two hours to go 10 miles with the vest on. RE: TGC Fitness Thread - 2024 - Jameris - 11-07-2024 I previously used Fitbit, thought it was decent. I wasn't too keen on the watches because it seems phone apps like Google Fit or Apple Health do most of what they do. The only thing the watch adds is a pulse reader unless I'm missing something. RE: TGC Fitness Thread - 2024 - Hwo - 11-13-2024 I rely heavily on a watch in the gym to time between sets. It’s a huge pain to use a phone for that because I’m counting in 45-70 second intervals depending not the workout. The only solution is to leave the stopwatch feature running, but it’s just dumb when I could wear a watch. And then I use the watch for pacing when I run because I like to not have to pull out and look at my phone. So a basic dive watch has always been fine. I also use the dive bezel for timing other things, like when I’m cooking. But I’m loving this Garmin Fenix 8 so far. I kept the 43mm. The 47mm would be fine if I lived outdoors (like I wish I could), but the 43mm looks much less out of place casually. I connected it to Strava and AllTrails, and I’ve used it on one 10 mile run in a new area I had never been before. Can’t wait to try it out in long hikes in the mountains. RE: TGC Fitness Thread - 2024 - Jameris - 11-13-2024 Well then you have a need for one. Perhaps one with water resistance and tailored specifically for exercise would do you best like a fitbit. RE: TGC Fitness Thread - 2024 - Danster - 11-18-2024 I don't know anything about all this stuff. I just want a watch that I can track my distance live. Heart rate monitoring would be a nice to have. I think I'd like it to connect to some app or online account so I could track it all in one place. Any ideas?! RE: TGC Fitness Thread - 2024 - Jameris - 11-19-2024 I recently decided to stick with Google/Android products for the time being, so there's Google Fit app and any compatible smart watches. RE: TGC Fitness Thread - 2024 - Hwo - 11-20-2024 For Google, I think they link well with Fitbit, and the Pixel and Samsung Galaxy watches are nice. I much prefer Android, but my company made us switch to Apple, and I did not want to carry around two phones. The Garmin Fenix 8 I bought has been great so far. Links fine with Apple and Android, and the battery lasts much longer than the smart watches made by/for Google and Apple. RE: TGC Fitness Thread - 2024 - Jameris - 11-25-2024 If I ever get another one, it will have to be water resistant so I can swim. Earlier today while browsing a stand in the mall I noticed that the prices have gone up in the past few years. |
