We got our first couple of inches of snow of the season overnight. It was wet and heavy and stuck to all the trees. Quite beautiful, although I'm not looking forward to the long winter ahead.

Woke up to a couple more inches today..... and our boiler (for heating) not working. Its always on the coldest nights!

They call that sod's law over here.

We've had a few bitterly cold days. It's reached -6 degrees (21 farenheit) overnight where I am. We haven't had any snow yet though.

Last weekend I was out with the family in -4 (25 farenheit) meeting friends. The kids were not too bad as they were charging around like lunatics, but us grown-ups were freezing. My toes actually stung with cold. We insensibly bought a picnic for lunch as well, ended up eating that our cars!

Well, the boiler is failing. I helped install it a little over a decade ago with a co-worker.

They patched it up enough to get it running again until Monday when they'll be back to install a newer, up to date and efficient one. Its supposed to be in the 20's and 30's that day, possibly with more snow.

Rained all last night and most of today. Expected to turn to snow soon and continue until tomorrow morning.

Our boiler is over 20 years old. We're expecting it to pack in any moment but for now it's doing a good job. We always think about replacing it during the summer when there is plenty of availability with heating engineers but think why replace a functioning boiler that still has some life left in it? The only trouble with that is that if/when it does pack up, it will almost certainly be during the winters months when we need it the most and when heating engineers are harder to get in!

It's had a few new parts put in, I actually fixed it myself by replacing the expansion vessel in the first week of lockdown.

20 years is well past the expected lifespan of a typical home boiler.

They've been here a couple of days now installing the new system. Its quite different from the old one which was basically a big box. This one small, on the basement wall and has various electronics and other nonsense. Supposed to be very efficient, which is good given the fluctuating cost of natural gas. Sounds like they'll probably be done tomorrow.

It began raining Sunday afternoon, poured all night and through most of Monday morning. I just took a walk to the local waterfall, between the raindrops, and WOW is that thing roaring!

cold, but dry. After days of flood warnings on the river things are settling down.

First major snow storm of the season expected Saturday afternoon. 6 to 10 inches most likely.
