RE: Sports (News & Discussion) - Danster - 11-10-2023 The Head Coach remains in place for tomorrow's game, but his boss, our Sporting Director, has left. He was due to go in March anyway but his departure has been bought forward. I guess in US speak a Sporting Director is akin to a GM in your sports. A lot of people are speculating that the Head Coach will only stay in until the new Sporting Director gets his feet under the table and appoints his own guy. RE: Sports (News & Discussion) - Danster - 11-12-2023 We actually won yesterday, 3-2 from being 2-1 behind. On the road as well. RE: Sports (News & Discussion) - General Ceel - 11-13-2023 Penn State lost yesterday. Steelers pulled out a win today. RE: Sports (News & Discussion) - Danster - 11-13-2023 I'm all about Boston for my US sports. Perhaps justifiably after such a sustained period of success, it's not easy being a Patriots fan at the moment. It's becoming increasingly clear that they're not going to do a lot with Mac Jones, and after benching him for a final, potentially game-winning drive, it looks like Belichick is thinking the same thing. I'm quite excited about the new look Celtics team. Losing Smart sucked because he was one of my favourite players, but it has to be said that a starting 5 of Holiday, White, Brown, Tatum and Porzingis looks better than they've had for a long time. Horford, Pritchard and Hauser off the bench gives some depth. They've made a promising start going 7-2. It's reassuring that Lillard hasn't had a great start to the season, when they signed him to play alongside Giannis I initially thought that would sew up the Eastern Conference, but as things stand it's not been the silver bullet the Bucks probably hoped it would be. RE: Sports (News & Discussion) - General Ceel - 11-19-2023 I live in the far Northeast corner of Pennsylvania. Geographically I'm closer to the New York teams than the Pennsylvania ones. So interestingly if you look around the neighborhood on bumpers tickers, flags, clothing, ect... I'm not sure that there is one dominant city getting the majority of the fandom. Penn State won. Steelers game coming up in a few hours. RE: Sports (News & Discussion) - Danster - 11-20-2023 I live in a small city that doesn't really have any sports clubs (or franchises as you would call them) other than the one Football (Soccer) team, so the vast majority of sports fans here will support the football club, Norwich City. There are a good number of bandwagon fans who support the teams that win stuff, like Man Utd, Man City, Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea, but thankfully they are outnumbered by proper supporters. The UK is such a football-obsessed country that no other sport really gets much of a look in. We pay attention to Tennis when Wimbledon is on, Cycling only gets an airing when the Tour de France is on. Rugby Union is probably the second biggest sport but it only has a dozen or so professional clubs that not many people watch, the nation as a whole is only vaguely interested when the Six Nations is on (a competition between England, France, Ireland, Wales, Scotland and Italy) or when the World Cup rolls around every four years. Cricket becomes popular when the Ashes are on. But really, the only sport able to consistently grab the nation's attention in any significant sort of number is Football. RE: Sports (News & Discussion) - General Ceel - 11-28-2023 Penn State finished out their season with a win. Steelers got the win as well. RE: Sports (News & Discussion) - Danster - 12-02-2023 Season is already effectively over for the Patriots. RE: Sports (News & Discussion) - General Ceel - 12-02-2023 Yeah, not looking good for the Patriots. Steelers are in decent shape at this point. Unless they have a total collapse they'll probably make the playoffs, but unless the offense improves I don't expect them to go very far. RE: Sports (News & Discussion) - Danster - 12-05-2023 Watching the Lionesses (England Women) beating Scotland 4-0. It's a weird one, we need to beat Scotland by three more goals than Holland beat Belgium in order to qualify for the Olympics. So even though the game is won, England still need to keep the hammer down. |
