RE: Sports (News & Discussion) - Danster - 02-03-2024 The FIA wanted it to happen, so it's definitely self-interest on behalf on the teams. RE: Sports (News & Discussion) - General Ceel - 02-03-2024 Its such a boneheaded move for an organization pumping so much in to trying to build an audience in the USA. As it is, I was mostly just "hate watching" F1 to ease the early Sunday morning boredom while waiting for Nascar and IndyCar races to begin. Don't get me wrong, I don't want anything to suck, but in general I think a lot of Euro-centric motorsports lost their way long ago. Read any comment section and you'll see diehard fans tying themselves in knots to try and justify continuing their fandom. I think they're only watching out of a sense of "obligation," in the same millions of people in every nation cling to their "national sport" because its the "thing to do." RE: Sports (News & Discussion) - General Ceel - 02-03-2024 Flooding expected in L.A. tomorrow. Nascar's Clash race has been moved up to Saturday night. Heat races cancelled. Just gonna be practice and then the race I guess. RE: Sports (News & Discussion) - General Ceel - 02-14-2024 Big week for Nascar begins tonight with qualifying for the Daytona 500 to set the front row. Thursday night are the two "Duels" (basically sprint races) to set the rest of the field. Friday night is the Truck series race under the lights. ARCA and X-finity races are on Saturday, and finally the Daytona 500 for the Cup Series on Sunday. Unfortunately calling for rain on Sunday. I wouldn't mind a delay of an hour or two though, that way the race would finish in the dark under the lights. Can't wait for the roar and rising tension of cars going 200 miles an hour, two and three wide, inches from each other playing high speed chess! RE: Sports (News & Discussion) - General Ceel - 02-17-2024 A lot of carnage last night in the NASCAR Truck series race, as expected, from these younger drivers trying to make their way up the ladder. One truck even went airborne and did a complete 360 before landing back on its wheels in 'the big one" near the end. Due to the rain expected today, they moved the ARCA race (4th tier series) from Saturday afternoon to late Friday night after the Truck series. I didn't stay up until after midnight to watch it, but will be watching the replay this afternoon. What makes this race of particular interest is that it will be the first "super speedway" race for Shane Van Gisbergen (the Australian Super Cars legend) who is transitioning to Nascar. Frankie Muniz (yes, that Frankie Muniz) also raced, in his second year as a fulltime ARCA driver. Both drivers will also be racing in today's Xfinity Series race (Nascar's 2nd tier) for the first time, although I'm not sure if the race will actually happen today because of the rain. Tomorrow's Daytona 500 is also expected to be rained out... or at least delayed several hours. I'd be fine with a delay, as it would mean a night race. RE: Sports (News & Discussion) - General Ceel - 02-18-2024 Xfinity series race moved to Monday morning. Tomorrow's Daytona 500 Cup Series race probably gonna be moved to Monday afternoon, as Sunday is expected to be a washout as well..... and no, you can't use rain tires at 200 miles per hour on a 33 degree banked track. RE: Sports (News & Discussion) - General Ceel - 02-18-2024 Daytona 500 also moved to monday. RE: Sports (News & Discussion) - General Ceel - 02-19-2024 Its Monday. I guess it finally stopped raining on Florida this morning, but now the Xfinity race has been moved yet again. It will take place at 9:30PM tonight AFTER the Daytona 500 which will hopefully, finally, happen at 4:00PM. RE: Sports (News & Discussion) - General Ceel - 02-23-2024 Nascar at Atlanta this weekend, and thankfully its sunny and beautiful there. RE: Sports (News & Discussion) - Danster - 02-25-2024 My football team drew a game on the road yesterday, 1-1, that they should really have won, particularly as they went 1-0 up. I'm mixed about it. We need to finish 3rd-6th to reach the playoffs, but I will be on holiday during the playoff final so won't attend what will be one of the biggest moments in my team's history if they make it. We made the playoff final (it's not like the US, winning it gets you to the Premier League rather than making you national champions) in 2015 and it was an incredible day. I'd hate to miss it, so selfishly I won't mind if we miss out, and not winning yesterday dented our chances significantly. |
