F1 TV ratings plummeted 40 percent, year over year, with last weekend's race.

I hope Verstappen wins every single race this time. If the people running the series don't get the message that their product is broken then, they never will.

If they didn't get it last season, I don't think they ever will. They bought in a budget cap, but then inexplicably left the driver's salaries out of it. Where is the logic in that? Surely that fixes everything? Ok, you can have the best engineers and build the best car, but once your driver has won two or three championships, he's going to be wanting a bumper salary. You either compromise on your car design to keep him or you let him go. Either way, you see a different car at the front of the grid every 2-3 years or a different driver, either prospect would make the sport more engaging. But they haven't done it. Bizarre.

Yeah, you're probably right.

I've got high hopes for the Boston Celtics as we get towards the post-season. The franchise really needs a championship for all the talent they have, and have had for the past few seasons. I was gutted to see Marcus Smart leave as he was my favourite player, but it allowing them to add Holiday and Porzingis looks to have improved them massively. If they can't win the big prize with this roster, something is badly wrong. They are by far and away the top seed this season.

I was actually in the USA the last time Boston won an NBA Championship in 2008. They should have won at least one since then, but here we are. They froze in the playoffs v Miami Heat last season; I can't see this year's team losing to an 8th seed in the playoffs this season. If anyone is going to stop them, surely it can only be a Giannis/Lillard inspired Bucks who ramp it up in the Eastern Conference Finals, or a Jokic inspired Nuggets in the Finals.

I haven't really paid much attention to basketball in a long time. When I was a kid I hate a little red Chicago Bulls hat, and they were in the middle of winning all of their championships. Michael Jordan is co-owner of a Nascar Cup Series team now, so I do see him from time to time on race broadcasts, though he generally stays pretty low key.

RE: Sports (News & Discussion) - Danster - 03-22-2024

I've always followed Basketball loosely but preferred NFL. However, in the last couple of years as my whole family has become completely engrossed with playing Basketball, it's become much more of a thing for me. I guess the fact that it's happened at the same time the Patriots have become the AFC East punching bag has probably helped Basketball's cause!

Alex Albon taking over Logan Sargeant’s car at the Australian Grand Prix because Albon wrecked his own: https://racer.com/2024/03/22/williams-situation-unacceptable-in-modern-day-formula-1-vowles/

^ reason 999 why F1 is stupid. Another example of putting money ahead of competition.
............

All of Nascar's top 3 series are racing at Circuit of the Americas this weekend. First road race of the year after 2 super speedways, a mile and a half and one half mile short track. The variety can't be beat! Looking forward to it.

RE: Sports (News & Discussion) - Danster - 03-24-2024

Yeah, the Albon thing is ridiculous. I get that he is the better driver and likely to finish further up the field than Sargeant, but he binned his own car. What happened to fairness, respect and loyalty? Doesn't exist in F1 anymore. And it's not like either of them would be fighting for a podium in that Williams.

RE: Sports (News & Discussion) - General Ceel - 03-24-2024

I saw "fans" rationalizing the move based on "points" and how much of the revenue the team will get at the end of the season based on their standing... but this way of thinking makes no sense to me at all. Its so anti competitive.

Didn't watch F1, as it was middle of the night here. At least you know who didn't win.

Meanwhile, IndyCar held a million dollar paying exhibition race at a private race track in California owned by the residents of a club. The track had a beautiful view of the mountains, but the racing wasn't very good.

Nascar raced at Circuit of the Americas. The X-Finity Series race (that's the second tier series) was the best of the three races this weekend.
