RE: What are you doing? - Danster - 10-25-2023 Drinking a cheap blended scotch. RE: What are you doing? - General Ceel - 10-26-2023 I'm not much of a hard alcohol drinker. The alcohol content is too high to be filling or safe. A few ounces and you've had more than you should, and you don't even get a full belly to tell you to stop. I do find the history of distilling interesting though. That said, I think there is too much hype around single malt. A blend made with purpose can be plenty interesting. In the craft/artisanal beer world, which is where my heart truly lies, there are some magnificent super high end beers that are made from blends. The truth about craft brewing is that its interesting and diverse in a way that distilled spirits and wines. There are no gatekeepers telling brewers here not to experiment with ingredients and methods. Its resulted in an explosion in creativity among the nearly 10,000 breweries currently in the USA. For me the "sweet spot" is a 4 pack of 12ounce bottles with an alcohol content somewhere between 8 and 9 percent sipped over a few hours. Its enough to satisfy the belly and the brain without resulting in too much regret the next morning. But I can just as easily pick up an expensive bomber of some expensive 15 to 20% ABV imperial stout aged for a year in barrels that previously held your favorite whiskey. RE: What are you doing? - General Ceel - 11-01-2023 I just mowed the lawn for what will likely be the next to last time this year. Strictly speaking it didn't "need" to be mowed. We've had heavy frost the past two mornings and there are snow flakes in the air right now, but I like to mulch all of the leaves up to get them out of the way. |
