While I doubt the release will be wide enough to come to my little town, I'm glad the film will be back in theaters again.

During the original release I saw it 6 times, including once at a drive-in movie theater. I saw it again for the holiday charity re-release which happened at the end of 1999. Years later I saw it in the theater again for the 3D release.

While there are still weird, angry trolls out there, hate of the film has softened significantly in the last several years. Hopefully a lot of parents with young kids will use the opportunity to help continue the rehabilitation of TPM.

I bet it doesn't come to the UK. Would be great to take my boy to the cinema for a pre-Disney Star Wars movie.

I doubt it will be a wide release, even here. This type of thing usually seem to hit major markets these days. Big wide re-releases like Avatar did a few years ago have become more rare it seems.

Its interesting that Phantom Menace has been back in theaters more often than the other films. It go the 3D release under Lucas, but then Disney bought the company and cancelled the 3D releases for the other 5 films.

I love The Phantom Menace, never got the hate it received. I mean, I understand that the unprecedented buildup probably set expectations a little high, and I don't think it was as good as the OT (but very little is), but it was still a brilliant movie. Probably number 4 in my 1-9 list of the big movies. Moves down to 5th because of Rogue One if we include spin off movies.

I think a lot of haters were unwilling to look at the film seriously. Its packed with detail and subtlety. Everything fits together very intricately, while also setting up Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith.... while making connections to the OT. I'm not anti Disney, but I think many of those in power positions there greatly underestimated George Lucas and the prequels. They thought they could easily do better. They were wrong.

It's probably a better stand alone film than the others is why it's released more often.

Yeah that's true. AOTC is kind of a part 1 to ROTS's part 2, whereas TPM does stand on its own and whilst we know there is more to come, does have a fairly conclusion and celebratory finale. Instead of Luke and Han's medals, we get Boss Nass and his big glass sphere.
