Mandalorian Season 3 and Book of Boba Fett - Danster - 03-21-2024

After watching these two I must admit to feeling pretty disappointed. They weren't awful, I enjoyed them, but my first impression was that they did not live up to the expectations created by the awesome Mandalorian Seasons 1 & 2.

However, I've just rewatched them as my 11 year old son has developed a major Star Wars interest and I want to cultivate it. I have to say, I was deeply wrong about Book of Boba Fett; on second viewing I think it was fantastic. Yes, I get they were a bit lazy by dedicating a whole episode and some on non Boba Fett character arcs (the cynic in me believes this was to force the Mandalorian fans to have to watch it) but I still think it was fantastic viewing, and the finale was proper Rocky-style viewing, it made you clench your fists and throw punches with the action.

Likewise, on first viewing of Mandalorian Season 3 I was like, "Meh, nowhere near as good as the first two". On second viewing, I still don't think it lives up to the first two seasons, but it was still a bloody good watch.

Mando 3 was very disappointing. I did love all of the flash back stuff in Boba Fett, but none of the story in the present really worked.

Boba Fett could have been a lot better, but on second viewing I wasn't anything like as annoyed as first time round. I think my major problem was that I never got my head around him as this ruler, he was a bounty hunter and I think I wanted to see him bounty hunting. But I think I got over that between first and second viewing and was able to appreciate it a lot more.

I think the trouble is the modern insistence on making everybody redeemable and a hero. Boba probably should have been ruthless, or at the very least horribly greedy.

Yeah, although I do think the whole time with the Tuskens justified his significant amendment of his character. But I think you're right, they could have played him as an anti-hero, someone we know is essentially bad but can't help rooting for.

...or they could have let him be bad for awhile first and then eventually found a reason for him to change in a way that feels earned. While I know he's in a lot of animated material between Attack of the Clones and the Original Trilogy, I think most people still think of him as a cold, ruthless bounty hunter.

Me and my boy are considering undertaking the entirety of The Clone Wars next.

I didn't really rate Kenobi.

We've started watching Rebels again, from the start, and even my two girls are getting involved in this one.
