I enjoyed both seasons. It isn’t as good as the Jackson trilogy, but it is worth watching. Honestly, the hardest part for me to get over is the casting of Elrond. The actor does a fine job, but he lacks to badassery that Hugo Weaving brought to the table. I say this as someone who has seen the Jackson movies several times, but I only read the books once almost 20 years ago in high school.
I've not watched the Amazon series, but I have just finished reading The Hobbit to my 11 year old boy. I need to get my hands on a copy of the trilogy and get cracking with that, as I've never read actually read it myself. It'll be nice to experience the books for the first time along with my boy.

I have not read any of the books. It's probably why I enjoyed the movies. We all know how the readers tend to have a negative predisposition towards the films but I was able to view unbiased.
I think the movies are great. They leave out things from the books, but they are great in their own right. It is how I feel about Harry Potter, as well. I loved the books, but I also love the movies, even when they left out or changed things. I also really enjoyed The Hobbit trilogy which took a lot of liberties from the source material.
