Promoting TGC

I'm discovering that there is a visceral dislike of advertising communities. When did we all get so inward looking? I suspect it's society as a whole rather than the online Star Wars community, but my god people are just so protective and defensive.

I've jumped into a few more Discord servers, you get the impression that they are more offended at you posting a link to an alternative community than they would be if you punched their grandma in the face. All a bit weird in my eyes.

The anti-advertising thing always baffled me. It existed back in the day, of course, especially beginning several years into TGC's existence. But earlier on "advertising" forums on ezboards and elsewhere were very much a standard part of the set up for most communities. It always seemed to me that I should be helpful to other communities trying to grow. But the most annoying thing was when you'd have someone come and use our advertising space but turn around and not allow us to advertise to their members. Talk about fragility...

There seems to be a fragility pandemic these days. We're just a pair of washed up old has beens trying to revive a dead community for crying out loud.

hehe! On the bright side, I think it confirms that we're not the ones with the mental/behavioral problems.

In theory, as its a google product, the blog will rank high enough in "gungan council" searches to catch the attention of any TGCers who find themselves strolling down memory lane.

Be interesting to see if that helps. Perhaps naively, I keep typing in the url hoping to see a name from the past has posted out of the blue, but as yet it hasn't happened.
